Fresh Water Well Update:

We have hit water!!!

staff waterFrancis Mumba, who has been hand-digging our well funded by the American International Women's Club in Genoa, struck water at the end of January.  The well is now complete at 57 feet deep.

EAC staff shared the first bottle of water and were all impressed by the taste and quality of the water.  We are so excited for the changes coming because of this well!

We will keep you updated on the progress of our farm as we continue to raise money to build it.   well 57 feet deep

This well will provide clean drinking water to our students and will be used to cook all our students' meals, saving the EAC $1,000/year.

Thanks to Margaret Canepa and the AIWC of Genoa!

We still need a water pump!! If you are interested in funding this endeavor, please contact jhill@eastafricancenter.org

Very Reverend James A. Kowalski of St. John the Divine Catherdral Visits Takaungu
Jim Kowalski

In January of this year, the EAC was honored by a visit from Dean Jim Kowalski.  Jim is the dean of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, the largest cathedral in the world.

During a trip to Egypt and Nairobi, Jim decided to make time to visit the EAC projects in Takaungu.  Jim is a long time family friend of Program Manager Kate Crowley and we were honored to show him around Takaungu. Jim was particularly interested in the work of our health team, and got a chance to do home visits with the health workers as they talked about family planning options. We look forward to a partnership for many years to come. Thanks for visiting us Jim!

jordan and dennisChefs Dennis and his son, Jordan Young, mastered the challenging art of Kenyan cooking and treated guests to traditional dishes that are still popular today: chapatti, vegetable curry, coconut chicken, lamb and cabbage samosas, and curried goat-rice pilaf.
