Student Spotlight

Shawn Cox, National Honor Society Adviser and History Teacher, would like to shine the spotlight on 10th grader Harjiven Dodd for his tremendous help with setting up for the NHS/NJHS Induction Ceremony last Wednesday afternoon. Harjiven went above and beyond the call of duty to help the NHS and NJHS Advisers transform the Multipurpose Room for the event. He willingly volunteered to move tables, help set-up refreshments and assist with anything else that needed to be done. Harjiven perfectly exemplified the honorable traits expected our of NHS students. Thank you, Harjiven, for being such a wonderful example and leader for our student body!

Barb DeLisa, Head of Operations, shines the student spotlight on Ian Zimmerman (7F). "Ian was on his way home last Wednesday when he saw me unloading supplies from my car. Instead of just walking by, he came over and asked if I needed help. Ian ended up unloading several cases of water and supplies for the NHS/NJHS induction ceremony. Thank you for the help Ian, it was greatly appreciated."

Julie George, Front Office Assistant, shines the student spotlight on Christopher Bahram (5Rb). "Christopher jumped in one morning to help me bring chairs into Art 1.  He was not even a student in that classroom at the time."

The time has come for the Arizona's required standardized testing. In preparation for this year's AIMS and Stanford 10 testing, we would like to notify you of important upcoming dates.  It is vital that your children be present for the AIMS and Stanford 10 test dates, and we thank you in advance for your assistance in making sure they arrive to school well prepared and on time for all testing sessions.

More detailed information is included in a Quick Link attached herein.

Seven BASIS Students named Grammar Bowl State Finalists

Zach Tronstad (8th) and Anna Zeng (8th) of BASIS Oro Valley and Akshata Rudrapatna (8th), Farhan Rahman (8th), Samdeet Khan (8th), Daphne Guo (9th), and Lena Meyer (9th) of BASIS Chandler are among just 24 students who will advance to the State Grammar Bowl Finals on April 14, 2012. Farhan Khan (8th) of BASIS Chandler qualified as a second alternate.

"The 2012 Arizona EGUMPP Grammar Bowl is a unique opportunity for 8th and 9th grade students throughout Arizona to participate in an academic competition focusing on grammar concepts and terminology," according to the organization's website.

There are four stages to the Grammar Bowl competition: the Preliminaries, the Regionals, the Semifinals, and the Finals.  Nearly 500 students entered the Preliminary stage of the competition which consisted of a Grammar Module that included 20 lessons and a mastery test that takes students approximately 15 to 20 hours to complete.  Students who scored at least a 90% on the Preliminary competition mastery test were eligible to progress to the Regional competition.

The Regional competition consisted of an online test and the 90 students with the top scores in the Regional competition moved on to the Semi-Finals. Six BASIS Oro Valley students and eight BASIS Chandler students competed in the Semi-Final round of the competition which consisted of a timed written test.
