June 10, 2012
Greetings!
June is a time for celebrating educational achievement.
If you just enjoyed such a milestone with one of your grandchildren or other dear one, you may be be looking for a way to fulfill your GG pledge in connection with the momentous occasion -- even if it is just a preschool "stepping up!"
Consider a gift to Room to Read, one of GG's recommended charities, a nonprofit focused on education for children in Asia and Africa. Room to Read lives by its core belief "World Change Starts with Educated Children." Look at its record since 1998:
Schools | 1,556 | Libraries | 13,152 | Books Published | 707 | Books Distributed | 11.5 million | Girls' Education Participants | 16,879 | Children Benefited | 6.7 million |
One of Room to Read's unique features is publishing books in local languages. Here's what they say:
We are proud to have now published more than 400 original children's book titles in 22 languages across seven countries, and today, Room to Read is one of the top publishers of children's books in many overlooked languages.... Our books have won several prestigious awards, including the "Children's Books of the Year Award" in Nepal and "Laos Book Excellence Awards." Bookshelves in Room to Read libraries are filled with more than four million copies of our books, all of them well-worn by eager readers. You can go to www.roomtoread.org to learn more and make a donation. Thank you for joining us in this world-changing adventure. Enjoy your June celebrations of youthful achievement!
