Friends of Mabry Park, Inc.August 2011
Greetings!

We have a new mission statement!

The FoMP Board has updated its mission statement to better reflect the Friends Group's long-term goal.

"Our mission is to raise funds to create Mabry Park; a park for current and future generations to connect with nature, history, and the community."

THANKS for the incredible response to last month's newsletter - lots of engagement from the community!

We appreciate the volunteer and financial support.

Sincerely,

Friends of Mabry Park, Inc.

Every little bit helped...

So many entities came together to make it happen. We have two private companies, the Cobb County government, volunteers from two civic organizations and a private citizen all coming together for a plant rescue of azaleas that will be held for later planting in Mabry Park.

  • Brooks Chadwick, a land developer (private corporation) indicated willingness to have a native plant rescue on property slated for a new subdivision across the street from Mabry Park.
  • The Georgia Native Plant Society, a volunteer-run civic organization organized and ran the plant rescue
  • A Friend of Mabry Park volunteer agreed to gather plants for Mabry Park. Other Georgia Native Plant Society volunteers also donated their plants to Mabry Park.
  • Cobb County Parks and Recreation donated some recycled 15-gallon pots to hold the azaleas until Mabry Park is ready for them.
  • Pike Nurseries of East Cobb (2900 Johnson Ferry Road,  Marietta, GA 30062-5679) provided the soil at a deep discount.
  • Mrs. Roper, a private citizen donated wood chips for the pots.
Thanks to all of you for a successful plant rescue that will help beautify Mabry Park.
