Adam Gopnik is an American critic, essayist, commentator, and journalist. A writer for The New Yorker, he has published widely and produced several collections of essays and nonfiction books. Gopnik, the recipient of three National Magazine Awards for Essays and Criticism and a George Polk Award for Magazine Reporting, will reflect on the common threads that connect American Art in his lecture, What Makes American Art American?

This talk is part of the museum's annual Clarice Smith Distinguished Lectures in American Art.

Design Craft: DreamHome

Design Craft is a creative partnership between the Washington Design Center and the Renwick Gallery. Eight local designers were asked to choose a piece from the 40 under 40 exhibition to serve as the inspiration for each room design. Join two of the DreamHome designers Catherine Hailey and Miriam Dillon, and the 40 under 40 artists who inspired them, Uhuru and Sabrina Gschwandtner, to get an in-depth look at their creative processes.

 Local artist Mariah Anne Johnson returns to the Luce Center to look at works on view and share her latest project, which combines her paintings and installations of meticulously folded sheets. Free coffee or tea available. Luce Artist Talks are presented with CulturalDC's Flashpoint Gallery. PLease meet in the Luce Foundation Center on the third floor.
