Happy Mother's Day from American Art!

Tomorrow is Mother's Day (Sunday, May 13th)! Are you looking for a special way to celebrate? Why not spend the afternoon at the Smithsonian American Art Museum?

Detail of The CaressWalking the galleries together and seeing artworks such as Mary Cassatt's The Caress (2nd floor, East wing) is sure to be memorable. Mary Cassatt was born in 1844 in Pennsylvania but spent most of her artistic career in Europe. Working alongside Impressionist greats such as Edgar Degas and douard Manet, Cassatt developed her own style of manipulating color and light. Her work is predominately figurative and the mother-child theme is a common recurrence. The Caress shows a tender moment between a young mother and her children and brings the viewer into this intimate family scene.

You can also enjoy a special Mother's Day concert by the Mendelssohn Piano Trio at 3 p.m. See our online calendar for more information.

After enjoying the art and the music, the
Courtyard Caf is a great way to relax in a beautiful space with a cup of espresso or a glass of wine!
