Teacher Workshop: African American Art in the 20th Century, May 19

We're just about ready to open a fabulous new exhibition: African American Art: Harlem Renaissance, Civil Rights Era, and Beyond. With this show, comes a great opportunity for teachers! Explore the period of the Harlem Renaissance through the Civil Rights Era by looking at 100 works by African American artists in the museum's collection, more than half of which will be on view for the first time. Romare Bearden, Jacob Lawrence, and the other artists represent multifaceted dialogues about art, black identity, and the rights of the individual, which engaged American society throughout the twentieth century. Attend the workshop to gather resources and ideas for using these enduring artworks in your classroom.
