Spring is a great time to be a kid. Mom or Dad dusts off the swingset and refills the sandbox, and then there are the hours spent looking for four-leaf clovers in the backyard and watching the robins pull plump worms from the fresh earth! Now that I think of it, perhaps my childhood was a bit different than the one being had by children today--what with the cell phones, video games, and nimbly texting fingers--but one thing remains the same: kids love a good field trip. Even if I'm a bit old fashioned, my kid-savvy colleagues are hard at work planning art-tastic activities that will woo your youngsters. So take a look at the featured items below and plan some kid-friendly fun!

Family Days
Spend a Saturday with your kids. Or spend a Saturday being a kid yourself. American Art's family days are free and open to all who are young at heART. Stop by the museum's Kogod Courtyard on the dates below between 11:30am and 3pm and play with us!
April 28 | JAM-min' Family Day
Celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM) with us! Baltimore Jazz Alliance's Jazz for Kids band presents an introduction to jazz music, with a family-friendly mini-concert including audience participation. Children can also create their own jazz name badges and visit a "petting zoo" of musical instruments to try their hand at drums, flute, saxophone, clarinet, recorder, bass, violin, guitar, trumpet, or trombone.
May 19 | Strike a Pose Family Day
Explore the art of photography with activities inspired by the museum's exhibition, Annie Leibovitz: Pilgrimage. Explore your world through a new lens on a photo-scavenger hunt and document your travels in an album to take home. Participants may bring their own cameras or borrow one from the museum (available on a first-come, first-serve basis). |
