Smithsonian American Art Museum
I heard birds chirping on the way to work this morning and it hit me that spring is just around the corner. The weather is a bit confusing with its fluctuant temperatures but those birds told me that, perhaps, Punxsutawney Phil was wrong. In any event, we're coming out of our winter slumber at American Art and want you to join us for lots and lots of fun programs in the coming months. First up: music. Check out the March & April concerts below, pencil us in, and join us for some tunes even those birds would envy.

Luce Unplugged

Staff-led art talks followed by acoustic performances by some of the areas up-and-coming musicians. Talks meet in F Street Lobby at 1:30 p.m.; performances at 2 p.m. in the Luce Foundation Center.

 

Integriti Reeves

Washington, D.C. area native Integriti Reeves is a Masters candidate in Vocal Jazz Studies at Howard University and performs throughout the Metropolitan Area. This concert is part of the city's Washington Women in Jazz Festival.

Hyattsville, Maryland duo lowercase letters performs an acoustic set, mixing neo-soul, folk, and hip hop. 

Take 5!
Every third Thursday from 5 - 8 p.m. enjoy free, live jazz in the museum's Kogod Courtyard! Borrow a board game, make some art, grab a drink from the Courtyard Cafe, or just tap your feet to the beat. Free admission; cafe items and art activities for a fee

The Jolley Brothers

April 19 | The Jolley Brothers Group

Twin prodigies Nathan Jolley and Noble Jolley Jr., graduates of the prestigious Peabody Conservatory, debut their quintet at Take 5! in celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month.

 

 

April 22 from 3 - 5 p.m.| Ella at 95

In celebration of Ella Fitzgerald's 95th birthday, Brad Linde presents an Ella-inspired concert with the seventeenpiece Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra, featuring the incredible vocals of Christie Dashiell, recently featured with Howard University's vocal jazz group, Afro Blue on NBC's The Sing-Off.

 

Steinway Series

We provide the Steinway Concert Grand model D piano, and accomplished musicians tickle the ivories in some very impressive ways. Concerts begin at 3 p.m. in the museum's McEvoy Auditorium; free tickets are required and available in the museum's G Street Lobby beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Award-winning composer Darin Atwater returns to American Art premiering an original work, Sound Theory, drawing upon various genres including jazz, classical, and American roots music.

Works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Judith Lang Zaimont are featured in this concert by American pianist Christopher Atzinger.

The Art of Video Games

The new exhibition, The Art of Video Games, provides a stage for music inspired by both classic and new era games!

 

April 29 at 3 p.m. | Gamer Symphony Orchestra

University of Maryland's Gamer Symphony Orchestra is the first collegiate ensemble of more than 120 instrumentalists and singers exclusively devoted to performing orchestral arrangements of video game music. Presented in Kogod Courtyard.
