Our apologies for interrupting your holiday meal prep (you didn't forgot to brine the turkey, did you?) but we just couldn't wait to share all of the exciting talks lined up for December in our house. Curators & other experts will reveal the stories behind many of our current exhibitions throughout the month, so add the dates below to your calendar and join us for a brief respite from the madness that results from frequenting packed malls, sitting in traffic jams, and witnessing perhaps a few too many screenings of It's a Wonderful Life.
 Multiplicity Curator Gallery Talk

Chuck Close, Self Portrait, 2000Join Senior Curator Joann Moser for a walk through the exhibition galleries to explore how artists featured in the exhibition Multiplicity question the ideas of rarity and uniqueness in art through repetition, pairing, and variation.

Electro Magnetic Engine, Inventor: Claude Victor GaumeCollector Alan Rothschild--who has amassed 4,000 patent models, some of which are on display in Building A Better Mousetrap: Patent Models from the Rothschild Collection--joins curator Charles Robertson to discuss 19th-century American ingenuity, patent models that represent the imaginative fervor of the era & the craftsmanship that attracts collectors.

Join White House Historical Association historian and webmaster William Bushong at the Renwick Gallery for a lunchtime gallery talk on The Evolution of the White House: Two Huindred Years of Architectural Change and Interior Design.

Charles Willson Peale, The Artist in His Museum, 1822

National Portrait Gallery historian David C. Ward comes face-to-face with Charles Willson Peale's iconic self-portrait, The Artist in His Museum--which hangs in the museum's exhibition, The Great American Hall of Wonders--and shares his insight into how it has come to symbolize the mission of today's museums to collect, preserve, and exhibit.

Cory Oberndorfer--who creates brightly colored paintings and installations that are often inspired by popular culture, such as roller derbies--speaks in the Luce Foundation Center. Free coffee & tea served until 3:30pm.
