Recent treatments in the Lunder Conservation Center

Our conservators have been busy this fall! Objects conservators Helen Ingalls and Hugh Shockey completed treatment of The Lost Pleiad by Randolph Rogers in September. During the documentation process, they used ultraviolet light to reveal evidence of old and new fills on the marble.

The statue is now on display on the second floor of the museum in the Antebellum Art galleries.

Frames conservator Martin Kotler constructed a new frame and vitrine for the painting La Madeleine no. I by Frank Edwin Scott, which is heading out on loan. He applied thin sheets of metal leaf across the entire frame, cutting the sheets to the same size as standard gold leaf to give the appearance of an antique gilded frame.

Our conservators are active on Twitter and Facebook and often post updates about the work that they are doing. If you follow @Lunder on Twitter before you visit the museum, you can find out exactly when the conservators are working on something so that you don't miss out while you're here!
