Smithsonian American Art Museum
This month artists abound in our program calendar! From Ethiopian-born Julie Mehretu to beloved local printmakers, we want you to be our guest while these creative personalities grace our stage. In gearing up to mark the November opening of Multiplicity, Public Programs Coordinator Laurel Fehrenbach had this to say:

"It is a unique opportunity to work with four leading DC artists and printmakers to bring them together for a panel discussion. I have really enjoyed working with all of them--after all, getting slides from one speaker a month in advance is nice, but getting slides from four speakers is truly a gift! I'm looking forward to listening to the conversation from this dynamic group of artists, who each take great pride in their art and the city in which they work."

So please join us in November for any or all of the following free art talks. We hope you are looking forward to them as much as we are!

Clarice Smith Distinguished Lecture in American Art
 Julie Mehretu
 November 2 @ 7pm

Julie MehretuThe 2011 Clarice Smith Distinguished Lectures in American Art draw to a close with internationally-renowned artist Julie Mehretu. Ethiopian-born Mehretu uses resin to encase images or architectural plans of public spaces from around the globe, painting over the sprawling drawings with colorful geometric abstractions, iconic imagery, and loosely figurative markings that evoke a world of associations. Reception follows.
