Food: It consumes much of our lives and many of our waking moments. Whether we're growing, preparing, shopping for or actually eating it, food is more than a necessity in our culture - it's a social activity. And, sometimes a tourist activity. In the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR), food is one of the principal focuses.
We spend millions of hours teaching, researching, writing about and thinking about food - how to grow it more efficiently and in changing climates, and how to process it safely and package it for transport. We explore how food production systems impact the environment and nature systems. There are few arenas in the "food" area that CANR doesn't somehow touch.
In this edition, you'll read about how our Product Center is working to bring local foods to market with Michigan-based Meijer stores. Three recent grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will push food safety forward. Rebecca Grumet helps bring us up to speed on some of the issues facing our global population. Our alumni in places near and far continue to impress us with their ability to change the world. And our Livestock Judging Team is just back from Colorado.
In other news, the search for a dean for the CANR has begun. Our search team is committed to finding a dean who will lead the CANR and its students, faculty and staff to new heights. You can read more about the dean's search here. Thank you for taking the time to catch up with us on happenings in the CANR. Please visit www.canr.msu.edu for additional updates.
