 RUN FOR THE ROSES SPONSORS

 May 2012
Greetings!

May 15-June 15th is National TS Awareness Month.  How are you going to spread awareness?

Will you participate in the Run for the Roses?  Request an In-Service for your child's school for the fall?  Go to Capitol Hill and speak with Congressman Roskam and Senator Kirk and Senator Durbin's Office?  Will you attend a Community Group?  Volunteer to help at TSA-IL Events?  Express yourself with an article, poem, song or drawing?  Will you tell a friend about TS?  Put up Awareness Flyers in your neighborhood businesses, TS Awareness Month Flyer.  As you can see there are so very many things we can do to advocate and spread awareness.

If you are doing anything special for Tourette Awareness Month, let us know about it, we want to hear from you!

Take the time to reflect on how special you and your loved ones are.  Be proud no matter what!  We all face challenges some are just more prominent than others.

Hope to see you at the Run for the Roses and other TSA-IL events!

Sincerely,

The Tourette Syndrome Association of Illinois

Patrick Goes to Washington DC..

I hardly knew what I would get into as TSA Illinois Youth Ambassador (YA) for 2012.

As hard as it is to have Tourette Syndrome (TS), it is just as difficult to talk about it. As a teenager, you just want to fit in and not draw more attention to yourself.

The most valuable aspect of the Youth Ambassador Training Program I attended in Washington DC, was networking with other Youth Ambassadors. I was at ease with these peers and this allowed me to become more comfortable talking about my disability. I learned a tremendous amount about the importance of advocating for the TS cause, not only on the home front and in schools, but also where there are decisions being made on policies important to families who encounter this disability.

On April 29th, I met with House Representative Judy Biggert, the staff members for Senator Mark Kirk and Senator Dick Durbin. I had the opportunity to discuss my perspective on TS.  READ MORE...

Looking for a Family Event?

June 3rd will be here before we know it!  If you are looking for a fun family event that promotes being healthy while supporting a good cause, then the 18th Annual Run for the Roses is simply a must do!  Be sure to sign up early, TSA-IL needs YOU!

The Run for the Roses has something fun for everyone, a certified 5K course for runners or walkers, free childcare for advanced registered participants, a youth 0.6k wholly contained within the Lake Park HS parking Lot, live music along the race course, a dj, free pony rides, petting zoo, balloon artists, food by Nancy's Pizza and more.

You don't have to have Tourette Syndrome to participate, spread the word, invite friends, family, neighbors, classmates and co-workers to partake in Race Day Events!  FOR MORE INFORMATION

Running or walking not really your thing?  We also need VOLUNTEERS to sign up now to assist on race day!   We need approximately 30 more volunteers.   Please send an email to [email protected] if you are interested in volunteering!
