When Being Obsessive Is A Good Thing....

Organizing Your Financial Records

When it comes to completing a task, some of us live by the Jeffersonian canon of conduct, "Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today." Others of us seem to prefer the "better reading" of this canon attributed to Jefferson's vice-president, Aaron Burr, "Never do today what you can put off till tomorrow."  YOU know who you are! (Jefferson's veep is, of course, better known for killing Alexander Hamilton in a duel.)

Regardless of where you fall on the procrastination spectrum, the time to organize all of your financial records and to ensure your parents' records are organized is NOW.

All of the various account statements, insurance policy records, ownership titles and estate planning documents that represent your or your parents' financial lives need to be easily accessible to family members at all times. At the time of a parent's or a spouse's passing, as we have seen first hand time after time, having organized records in one location can save needless stress and expense, and ensure all proceeds and assets are passed on as they were intended to be.

Having disorganized records, on the other hand, can lead to family members incurring needless fees and spending months locating missing documents and information. In some cases, missing records can lead to unclaimed assets or insurance proceeds. At our office, we, as do many CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER's provide an organizing binder with sections for each type of record and document, as well as an online vault system where all records can be scanned and saved.

The following article provides a comprehensive guide to what you need to have on hand and how to keep all records in one convenient location

Danny Boy,
Where Have The Years Gone?
Does this mean we have to finally stop fantasizing about Dan Marino coming back to save the Dolphins? In a move that may seem unsettling to some, our very own Hall of Fame quarterback recently signed on as an ambassador for AARP!

Marino explained in a recent interview that he is now committed to spreading the message that life can be meaningful after 50 and that retirement  can be the time to think about the NEXT you.

Frye Financial Community Involvement

Over the past few months, every Wednesday morning, Austin Frye welcomed the students of the Doresh School for boys with learning disabilities into his conference room. There he taught them a "Money and Investing" course complete with entertaining PowerPoint presentations, to impart to the young men the importance of basic financial skills in becoming independent adults and in being able to participate in the business world.

Last week they were treated to a breakfast party to celebrate their completion of the course. Congrats to our wonderful Doresh students.
