WUOT Thanks Supporters for Successful Fiscal Year

July marks the beginning of the new fiscal year for WUOT Public Radio and thanks to wonderful community support, the station ended FY 2011 in great shape! Community sources provided more than 60% of WUOT's revenue in FY 2011!

Members like you who generously donate to the station provided 41% of our total operating budget in FY11. The coming years may hold uncertainties for some sources of public radio funding, but WUOT's membership continues to grow. You believe in what we do and you support it. That means the world to us.

Businesses and organizations that underwrite on WUOT accounted for 19% of WUOT's revenue. In a time of economic uncertainty, it's gratifying to know that these groups continue to believe in WUOT as a valuable resource. The University of Tennessee, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and endowment provided the remaining 40% of the station's annual operating income.

WUOT simply could not exist without the tremendous commitment of our members and these organizations. As we close the books on FY 2011, we are profoundly grateful for the support you give the station and its staff.

We look forward to serving you in FY 2012. THANK YOU for ensuring that WUOT will continue to provide quality noncommercial public radio to our region and beyond!

Getting A Kick Out Of Cocktail Culture

The Rhode Island School of Design's Museum of Art has launched an intoxicating exhibit of apparel, accoutrement, and ephemera. "Cocktail Culture: Ritual and Invention in American Fashion, 1920-1980" uses 200 disparate objects to explore how cocktails emerged as "a symbol of American joie de vivre, prosperity, youth, and unity.

gold coins - Andrew JohnsonMoney For Nothing

All around the nation, money is piling up in Federal Reserve vaults. There's a billion dollars of it -- and the government can't even give it away. The dollar coin program is a massive and expensive failure that no one in Washington seems to want to talk about.

The latest Internet photograph meme to blend the past and the present is "Dear Photograph." The project involves people taking old pictures back to the place they were taken, and photographing the picture to juxtapose what was and what is.
