WUOT Raises Record Funds, Thanks to YOU!

dancing with joyWUOT's Spring Fund Drive April 11-16 was a huge success thanks to each and every person who pledged! Donors are our largest single funding source, which means that you are true partners with WUOT. We air the programming you enjoy and you help make that possible. Thank you.

Here are the results: 1,788 people, 414 of whom were new members, pledged a total of $182,000, exceeding our goal for the drive. This is definitely the community's radio station - donors made the fund drive successful financially and volunteers made it possible logistically. About 120 volunteers collectively spent several hundred hours here answering pledge phone calls, sending out mailings, picking up donated food and providing other important administrative support. We greatly appreciate all your help.

In other results, cats received 75 more pledge "votes" than dogs on Pet Pledge Day April 13, regaining the title as WUOT members' most popular pet. Our Community Partnership on Friday, April 16, also was very popular - and a great success. Cortese Tree Specialists offered to donate 300 pink and white dogwood trees to Dogwood Arts Bazillion Blooms if we received 400 pledges that day. And, thanks to everyone who pledged that day, we did! The trees will be planted in the Knoxville area this December.

However you donated, whenever you donated, we are grateful for and humbled by your support. Thank you for being loyal partners of this public radio station!

We also thank the following businesses, which generously supported WUOT during the drive:

Poker onlineRoyally Flushed

Recently, the Justice Department charged the three largest online poker sites serving U.S. customers with fraud and illegal gambling. But there's a possibility that the players on those sites might not have broken any current laws.

standing_sittingMove Or Die (No, Really)

Modern society is pretty sedentary -- most people sit for fifteen and a half hours a day. New research shows that sitting that long could (eventually) kill you.
