Sea Dreams Triptych                                                                                               2011 Mark MacKinnon

Hope everyone is enjoying a great summer, staying cool, and making it to the beach! I've been traveling as usual the last couple months to some great locations, from Chicago to Virginia Beach and out to Denver over to Madison and back home for a show in Westport , CT. It has been nice being home preparing for a string of shows that will take me back to Chicago, and out to one of my favorite shows of the year in Stunningly beautiful Sausalito CA.

On the way back to NY, I hit the Saint Louis Art Fair, which invites a couple hundred artists from around the country out of thousands of applications. It will be great once I finally make it back to NY for the show in the end of September in Armonk. Always a great show with enthusiastic art lovers, one of the best shows I do on the circuit, and it's only an hour from my home.

What's next, two shows in Texas for October, and then I rest until next year, or should I say prepare for a winter of shows in Florida!

     Fog Bank   2011 MacKinnon

Montauk derives its name from the Montaukett tribe, an Algonquian-speaking tribe who lived in the area, from the early 1600's. History is long and storied from stories of Captain Kidd said to have buried treasure at the tip of Montauk at what today is called Money Pond.  In 1792 Congress under George Washington authorized construction of the Montauk Lighthouse. It was completed in 1796. In 1839 slaves who had seized the schooner Amistad came ashore in the hamlet looking for provisions after being told by the white crew that they had returned to Africa. American authorities were alerted and the slaves were recaptured and ultimately freed in a historically significant trial. The stories go on about this magical place at the tip of Long Island, that keeps it's pull from second home owners and others who have found a way of life at Lands End.
Today part of what we see are the remains of the dream Carl Fisher had when he bought most of the east end in 1926, and planned to turn Montauk into the "Miami Beach of the North". To many including this photographer the magic is in the "Fogbank" that envelopes the town, at any moment, and the soft sound of waves breaking onto it's shores. "(Sea Dreams)"
