Brahman

Brahman Cattle run_ Arkansas                                                                   © 2011 Mark MacKinnon

Coming back from Austin Texas, and a nice show , I went through Arkansas and stayed at the Lake Catherine State Park for a few days.  On this lonely road outside of Hot Springs, AR, I came across these amazing Brahman cows. I drove passed, turned around and went back to shoot them. They had moved from the fence line back into the trees, when I stopped. I was hand holding my hasselblad and fired off one frame, and the calves took off. I followed them in my view finder, and took a second and third frame as they moved across the landscape. I then stitched this panoramic together to make the final image.

I am lucky to get through this area before the tornado's came that devastated much of the south.

The art fair season really heats this summer, with shows in May in Bethesda, MD and onto the tip of Long Island at Montauk for Memorial Day. June will be a busy month, and it's non-stop from there throughout the summer. Gasoline prices are sure to make things interesting this year, but with good weather, and new work to show, I'm anxious to exhibit in many top shows, I have not done before.

Seagull, A Surfers Dove. I'm looking through some old images shot last year in Santa Cruz, CA and this one struck me. Whatever one can say about the course of world events lately, we could use some harmony, and perhaps some reflection on other times. We live amongst bickering partisan ideals today, but I try to keep my work on point, not over think the message, and allow the viewer to take away a feeling of peaceful thoughts. My photography is for the home, and it should evoke a sense of well being.
