What's in a Wedge?
This month we're going to focus on the importance of having the right wedge's in your bag to help you lower your scores.
We all know the most critical part of the game are the shorter shots played from 120 yards or less to the hole and around the green. Without the proper wedges in your bag these shots from the "scoring zone" become very difficult to accomplish. In the past most players only carried 2 wedges, the pitching wedge (48 degrees of loft) and a sand wedge (56 degrees of loft). Now it is not uncommon to carry 4 wedges, with the additional clubs being the "gap" wedge and the "lob" wedge. The gap wedge is just that, the club between the pitching wedge and the sand wedge with a loft of 52 degrees. With this club in the bag we will not feel stuck when we have a shot that is slightly shorter then the yardage we hit our pitching wedge or longer then we hit our sand wedge. The other club we can add to our bag is the lob wedge (60 degrees of loft), which is designed to produce the highest trajectory available. This club can be used around the green to produce a shot that has a lot of height and stops easily. We can also use the lob wedge from the fairway on those tough 30-70 pitch shots with great results.

Another Successful
fund-raiser for the Art & Culture Center of Hollywood
The day starting very gloomy but ended bright, light and sunny. The Fourth Annual Golf for Art tournament was held on April 14th at Hollywood Beach Golf Resort. The tournament raised over $23,000 for the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood. After golfing the full field went into Moonshadows Restaurant & Pub where they had a marvelous lunch buffet, awards ceremony, door prizes were received by many happy golfers along with a live auction. First Place, Low Gross winners receive their awards: From left to right are Art and Culture Center of Hollywood Board Member Hon. Sandra Coleman, golfers Dale Bruschi, Clint Gage and Fred Stacer, and Center Board Treasurer Anna Smith.
