Destination Tucson

Photo from the National Park Service
From the iconic Saguaro cacti of the Sonoran desert to the living Old West history of Tombstone to a night on the town in Tucson, Southern Arizona has a lot to offer RVers.
By the time June comes around, the average high will be over 100 degrees (and yes, we know it's a dry heat), making the next few months the perfect time to visit this rugged, beautiful and historic corner of the country.
Here are a few links to help you plan the perfect getaway.

"Debugging" a campsite
This reader tip comes courtesy of Gary Lindahl of Buda, Texas. Gary writes:
"Many areas attract night time bugs when outside lights are used. Many people have turned to Christmas lights, which work well but are hard to store. I find rope lights to be the best. You can string them in the trees or awnings, or just lay them flat on the ground to mark a footpath. If you attach a light-sensitive switch, they will come on at dusk and off at dawn, leaving the bugs confused."
Thanks, Gary! A beautiful Winnebago Industries keychain is on its way to you. Readers, if you have a camping or RV travel tip you'd like to share, please send it in!

Greetings!
Happy holidays, and welcome to the third issue of our Traveling Times Newsletter.
Created to enhance your enjoyment of RVing, Traveling Times will introduce you to new people and places, and increase your knowledge of our motor homes. It is produced about every three weeks or so, subject to the occasional detour along the way.
Have a tip, favorite destination or recipe you'd like to share? Send us an email. (Our lawyers state that all submissions become the property of Winnebago Industries, so if you don't want us to share Aunt Mabel's tomato-lima-bean pudding recipe, don't hit "send.")
If you missed them, you can find earlier issues in the archive. Enjoy this issue, and please accept our best wishes for a safe and happy holiday season wherever your road may take you.

Traveling Tails
According to a recent Associated Press poll, nearly nine out of ten Americans think their pets are part of the family, and fully half of us regard pets as full-fledged family members. So it's no surprise that more and more RVers are hitting the road with pets on board.
For a few tips to help keep your pets safe and sound while traveling, we turned to GoPetFriendly.com. This helpful website is run by Amy and Rod Burkert, full-timers who are showing their dogs the country in their Winnebago View.
A few important things:
- Secure your pet while driving. Only 15% of pet owners properly restrain their pets, yet pets are just as susceptible to injury in an accident as people (and an unrestrained pet could be even more at risk afterward).
- Plan ahead. Although one goal of GoPetFriendly.com is to document pet-friendly destinations for RVers, Rod and Amy haven't been everywhere (yet!). A little pre-trip communication can ensure that your pet is as welcome as you are at your destination.
- Bring along proof of current vaccinations and copies of your pet's medical records. Both can come in very handy in case of emergency. (Helpful hint: If you don't want to carry paper copies, scan them and put them on a flash drive.)
Pets can certainly make RV travel more enjoyable. We owe it to them to keep them safe and comfortable in the process. For more tips on RVing with pets, we encourage you to visit GoPetFriendly.com.

Meet the 2012 Era (and some Era owners)
When Mary and Dan Troudt went looking for a motor home, they did their homework, spending more than a year researching their options. As youšll see in this short video, fuel economy and storage are a few of the things that drew them to the Era... while its outstanding value cinched the deal.
The 2012 Era is nimble, easy-to-drive and fuel-efficient, typically achieving 18-19 miles per gallon. Built on a 11,030-lb. GVWR Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis with a turbo-diesel engine, the Era is a fully functional motor home that's perfect for weekend or weeklong trips, with enhanced storage and seven belted positions for seating flexibility. Other key features include swiveling cab seats, a powered sofa/bed, 22-inch LED HD TV that extends and swivels for easy viewing, a removable wardrobe option and available infotainment center with GPS, voice guidance, CD/DVD and 7-inch touch screen. This Class B stands out from the rest -- at a price that's thousands less than competitors! |
