Fluor to build 125 MW solar facility near Palo Verde February 3, 2012 Phoenix Business Journal
Fluor Corp. will build a 125-megawatt photovoltaic solar facility in western Maricopa County in an area near other power plants, including Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station.
LS Power Group, through its subsidiary Arlington Valley Solar Energy II LLC, issued the contract, and financial details were not released.
Fluor, based in Irving, Texas, is building the facility on 1,160 acres near the 577-megawatt Arlington Valley combined cycle natural gas power plant owned by Star West.

Officials vote to continue talks on Sterling Solar project during March meeting February 7, 2012 Today's News-Herald
KINGMAN - Mohave County Board of Supervisors voted Monday to continue discussion pertaining to large-scale solar farm, Sterling Solar, until the general meeting scheduled March 12 - after the county development services staff facilitates another public meeting in Golden Shores.
During the meeting Monday, three people addressed the supervisors with concerns all centering on an access to the proposed solar farm site, a 22-square mile private parcel near Interstate 40 and State Route 95 interchange, from Polaris Road, in Golden Shores. Polaris Road is within one mile of a school in that community.

Feds target 237K acres in Arizona for renewable energy projects February 29, 2012 Cronkite News
WASHINGTON - The Bureau of Land Management has recommended 237,100 acres of public land in Arizona are suitable for renewable energy development, part of an effort to speed up the process for clean-energy companies looking to set up shop in the state.
The agency released a draft environmental impact statement on Feb. 17 for its Restoration Design Energy Project, recommending a middle course among six alternatives that ranged in size from 43,700 acres to 321,500 acres.
"Arizona has great potential to build a strong renewable energy economy," Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said in a prepared statement.

City staff, council members and community leaders are applauding a solar research and development project that will be bringing some 600 jobs to Benson.
On Feb. 15, Matinee Energy, Inc. held a groundbreaking ceremony, complete with a champagne toast and lunch to celebrate the Matinee Energy Campus in Benson. The project is expected to bring a tremendous economic boost to the area through research and manufacturing jobs. In addition, Matinee will be partnering with Cochise College for local workforce training.

BLM picks land near Yuma for possible solar project February 13, 2012 YumaSun
WASHINGTON - The Bureau of Land Management on Monday put aside nearly 21,000 acres of public land near Yuma for the next two years while it studies its potential for use as a solar energy site.
The agency said Monday that the "segregation" of land in Agua Caliente protects the area from mining claims and other prospective uses as the bureau analyzes its potential.
"We're trying to identify the best places to develop renewable energy," said Lane Cowger, BLM deputy project manager in Arizona. "There's real potential we think in the Agua Caliente site."

Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly said the tribe is considering investing in an electricity grid project that would allow the Nation to sell its power nationwide.
Shelly met with the developers behind the $1.5 billion Tres Amigas, LLC on February 29, according to the tribe's media release.
The Tres Amigas Electricity SuperStation-set to break ground in July 2012-will unite the United States' three major electricity grids. The station is being built on 22.5 square miles of range land in Clovis, New Mexico, near the border of Texas.

Global Medical Device Firm Expanding in Mesa, Arizona February 13, 2012 Area Development
Ulthera, Inc., a medical device company pioneering aesthetic and medical applications using therapeutic ultrasound platform technology, will invest $1.68 million to expand its operation in Mesa, Arizona and create more than 100 high-paying jobs.
The state's perceived pro-business environment, which provides businesses with funding and job training incentives, kept Ulthera from relocating outside the state, a Phoenix Economic Council spokesman said. Officials see Ulthera's decision as a first step in attracting other technology companies, offering high-paying jobs to the area.

Sam's Club and a huge Canadian equipment auction yard are still on the books but are still a couple of years away, the Casa Grande Industrial Development Authority was told during its meeting last week.
On the other hand, City Manager Jim Thompson said, the huge Phoenix Mart project east of The Promenade at Casa Grande should begin moving dirt this summer.
"Ritchie Bros. Auction has been pushed back to probably 2014," Thompson said. "They'll do some work this year, start construction in 2013, be open in 2014."
Ritchie Bros., which has operations in 41 countries, would draw from around the world to the Casa Grande yard south of Jimmie Kerr Boulevard and east of Interstate 10.

New Glendale mall to create 1,600 jobs Feb 21, 2012 ABC 15
GLENDALE, AZ - Glendale has been chosen as the location for the newest outlet mall to be built in Arizona.
Tanger Outlet Center Westgate will include 85 brand name outlet stores within walking distance of Westgate City Center, Jobing.com Arena and the University of Phoenix Stadium near Loop 101 and Glendale Avenue.
The open-air mall is expected to be ready for business in the fall, according to a City of Glendale news release.
The project is expected to bring more than 700 jobs during construction.
