Make A Haven From Those Wintertime Blahs
Margaret Hagen, UNH Cooperative Extension Educator
If you're sick of icy roads, icy sidewalks and icy parking lots, why not create a small haven from winter that you can enjoy from your fireside chair? Terrariums are Lilliputian landscapes that are challenging and fun to construct. They also provide hours of fun
and enjoyment as you watch their growth and development.

Protect Your Landscape From Winter's Ravages
Margaret Hagen, UNH Cooperative Extension Educator
New Hampshire's winter weather will be arriving so before you settle in don't forg et that there may be a few late chores to attend to.
Do you have spring flowering bulbs that somehow did not get planted earlier this fall when they should have? If you are in this situation, plant them anyway. Even though the ideal planting time has come and gone, your bulbs will be better off in the ground than in any other place. These bulbs may take a year or so to adjust themselves but eventually they should come around. (full article)

Food & Nutrition Cheshire County is Cooking with Nutrition Connections! One great thing about working for Nutrition Connections is trying new recipes with the groups I teach. Sometimes the recipes are new to the group and sometimes they are new to me! When I forget to bring an ingredient, we create a new recipe. (This happened just once!) One favorite of mine this fall was "Secret Ingredient Macaroni and Cheese." We cooked and pureed fresh cauliflower. Next we added it to our cheese sauce. It was a successfully stealthy way to add vegetables to a crowd pleasing dish. The simple addition of black beans to taco meat was a pleasant surprise for one cooking group and a few leaves of fresh spinach added to a cheese quesadilla met with approval in another. It just goes to prove that you don't need to completely rewrite your menu in order to make your meals healthier. (full article) |
