Final Human Race Update
Saturday, May 12, is the big day!
Thank you so much for your continuing support! Five dollars supports a child for one class in our special needs music program. Fifty dollars funds a 10 week series for that child. Our goal is $4000. for the 2012/2013 school year.
Those who want to walk with us can meet at the Building for Generations table at 8AM, 2300 Delaware Street, Santa Cruz. For those of you just interested in making a contribution, you can click PLEDGE link. Be sure to select :Building for Generations #421.
This has always been a fun event and it can't get much more beautiful than West Cliff Drive for a walk.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM: We've partnered with Lizz Anderson, regional director of Music Together to bring an experiential music program to four Santa Cruz classrooms for children with developmental disabilities.
In the past year the program has been everything we wished for both students and teachers. Music is one of the few activities that engages the whole brain and therefore greatly benefits this special group of children.
For example, one student struggled mightily to learn to spell his name. The teacher noticed he could remember the scale. Using these notes with the letters of his name he was able to accomplish the task.
The enrichment that music brings is well documented but beyond that, it is a beautiful experience to watch the children light up in this program.
