Last year board member Teri Smith and I were in Tanzania when baby Derrick was born.  He just turned One and we want to wish him a Happy Birthday!!  Derrick is the son of Dennis Lyamuya, our Safari guide.  Dennis consistently went the extra mile and helped us out many days at our school site in Arusha.  He has an excellent knowledge of nature......make your trip to Africa special when you go and hire his team.  Go to www.kwetutours.com

DAY AFTER THE EVENT

What a thrill it was for me to bring Emmanuel to Santa Cruz.  It is my hope that you shared in the inspiration he brings to reach for your dreams.  This photo was taken before we left for the airport.  Emmanuel left for San Diego on March 10th and will be going on to Mexico where he is training with the U.S. paralympic team for soccer.

Thanks to all of our sponsors, he left with a nice sum for his foundation and Building for Generations did as well.  We estimate that we raised enough money to send our promised support to the Peru and Tanzania project for the rest of 2012.  In addition, we also sent $600. to complete a chicken farming project for one of our Tanzania families that is destitute. Raheel is a single mother with three boys.  I have written about her story in the past.  All her children came to our unit diagnosed as having a disability.  In fact only one did, the others were so malnourished they could not learn.  Thank you for making a difference in this families life.  Look for updates on the project!!

JOIN US IN THE HUMAN RACE!
This year we are dedicating our 2012 race to our local music project here in Santa Cruz.  We are currently in 4 classroom settings for children with special needs.  Two of them are at Soquel High School, one is at San Lorenzo Valley, and finally we are in Chrysalis pre-school for children with autism.  Building for Generations has partnered with Lizz Anderson of MusicalMe.Inc and regional director for Music Together in this project.  Our total cost to conduct three 10 week sessions for these children and teens over the course of the 2012/2013 school year is $4000.  This means:

$5.00 buys one music class for a child
$50.00 buys a 10 week session for a child

This project has been overwhelmingly received by the students and teachers.  Please consider this opportunity to enhance the lives of students in our schools. For more details or to contribute online, click here. Enter the donation amount in the donation box to the left of the pictures, then click the "continue" button. IMPORTANT - PLEASE be sure to select "Building for Generations - 421" in the first drop-down menu titled "Agency and tracking number:*" This is the only way the system knows your donation is intended for our program..   Or call Cory at 831.477.7882 for more information.

If you would like to participate with us at the event, the minimum donation for running/walking and lunch is $35, and you can meet us at our table on May 12th after registering. Every year, the weather has been superb and the walk on West Cliff is beautiful!

News from Peru

One of the  recent pictures of the waiting room at our Center in Chincha Baja, Peru.  The mayor has recently allocated money to add an additional room to the facility we built.  The community has embraced the project and families and persons with special needs have a place of their own in their community where they receive therapy services and gather for workshops.

Our sincere thanks to you,

Cory Ybarra, and the team
