Jackson Lodge No. 17, F. & A.M.
Greeting's From The East
Frank W. Lutze Worshipful Master 517-563-8338 Dear , July is usually a quiet month as far a Jackson Lodge #17 is concerned. The June Regular Communication and Strawberry Festival are "in the book" and the Lodge is Dark. Not so this year. Five Fellowcrafts were Raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on July 6th and 7th. On July 6th we were honored by a visit by Most Worshipful Frederick E. Kaiser Jr. Grand Master of Masons in Michigan. Most Worshipful Brother Kaiser asked if I would like him to sing the funeral dirge in the Second Section of the Master Mason Degree. When I responded "Yes" I must admit that I was unaware of the significance. I soon learned that the Officers and Brothers of the Lodge, several of who had been Masons for forty years or more had never heard the dirge sung. It made a special evening more so. Even though it was Summer and time for vacations and other family commitments the Officers and Brothers were there for the Work. Why? Because of the last working tool of our Craft, the one I presented during the Degree. The Trowel. The Trowel that spreads the cement of brotherly love and affection. That cement that units us in one sacred band or society of friends and Brothers. The Brothers were there to Raise the five Fellowcrafts for love of the Brothers and love of the Craft. Sometimes the working tools of our Craft may, due to lack of concentration or distraction, slip from our grasp. As soon as we become aware of this we must pick them up and continue our work where we left off. Only through the diligent practice of our Craft will we here those welcome words. Well done good and faithful servant . . . . Fraternally, Frank W. Lutze Worshipful Master |
"The Trowel"Written by Michael N. Salmore The tools of a true Master Mason- A man who has proven his skill- Are any or all that he chooses, His task to correctly fulfill. Foremost of these is the Trowel, Which practical builders all class As the tool for spreading of mortar Uniting the house in one mass. But we as Freemasons would use it For purpose more noble and grand, As craftsmen have faithfully taught us, As Masonry's ritual's command, To spread the cement of affection, Devotion and brotherly love, To bring peace, good will and contentment On earth as in Heaven above. Yea; this is the cement that unites us In one sacred union of friends- Brothers 'mongst whom no contention, Nor discord nor diff'rence portends, Except that most noble contention By Masons Accepted and Free; Or rather that fine emulation Of who can best work and agree. "The modest description of the trowel may sometimes understate its importance to the fraternity. I desire to share with you this poem and a rendition of a favorite piece of early Masonic art which appears above (and on this site's home page: http://www.2be1ask1.com/library/trowel.html Remember the trowel Brothers. The square and compasses perfect the individual, but the trowel unites the Brother with the Brotherhood." |
From The Secretary's Desk
If you have not yet paid your 2011 Lodge Dues your payment should be made as soon as possible to avoid the possibility of suspension for non payment of dues. The Delinquent Dues Committee was activated at the June Regular to investigate those brothers who have not paid and to report back to the lodge in September. Please contact the Secretary for more information if necessary. Thank you.

Greetings Sir Knights, Companions and Brothers:
I trust that your summer has been enjoyable thus far and that you are finding ways to stay cool. As we begin to turn our thoughts toward the fall, we have a busy schedule and the privilege to see several new knights created. As far as new and exciting news, please mark your calender for the first Saturday in March 2013. You heard that right, 2013. As many of you know we have been working out details of Jackson becoming the Michigan leg of the York Rite Tri-State Communication. The other legs are Bryan, Ohio and Angola, Indiana. The Michigan leg has been absent for several years with York Rite leaving Hillsdale. In 2013, Jackson Commandery No. 9 will have the honor of conferring th Order of the Temple upon many new knights from Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. Re-establishment of the third leg in Jackson will bring much regional York Rite Cooperation, which will strengthen old connections and build new ones. In 2013 The Yoeman of York will be conferring the Order of Malta and Red Cross. Next March the communication is in Angola and we will plan to attend to begin these new friendships and see how the details work. How the rotation works is every two out of three years something will be in Jackson.
Work has begun to schedule a tour of the Detroit Masonic Temple with John Snyder who apparently does a great tour complete with all the history you may want. Please contact me if you have interest, but we hope to take a group of masons from Jackson for a special tour and time of fellowship some weekday perhaps in Late August or this fall.
Please continue to hold those among us that are sick or have recently experienced loss of loved ones up in prayer. I look forward to seeing everyone soon.
E.C. Adam

We have just completed a massive project at our Masonic Center in Michigan Center. We had to do the following:
- Clean the entire building and replace the furnaces. Install new rooftop heating and air conditioning units with new air ducts.
- Throw away a lot of items that are of little use to us anymore.
- New Hanging Sign out front and in the very near future a new Masonic/York Rite/Eastern Star lighted sign on the building.
We now have a more efficient building that we all can be proud of.
COSTLY - YES BUT NECESSARY $80,000.00 WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! PLEASE, contribute as liberally as you can without material injury to yourself or family! Thank you for your support!
