Greeting's From The East

WM 17

Frank W. Lutze
Worshipful Master
517-563-8338

Dear ,

Greeting's Brethren,

February was truly a busy month for the brethren of Jackson Lodge #17.  The Regular Communication included a dinner in recognition of the anniversary of the birth of Worshipful Brother George Washington.  Desert featured a cake decorated with a picture of the father of our great country in his Masonic regalia.  The dinner was so well attended that more dinners are being planned.

The last two weeks of the month saw three degree nights with seven candidates initiated as Entered Apprentices.  Four brothers (Worshipful Bothers George Otis, Stephen Vining, Brother Lyman Robertson and I) shared the duties of Worshipful Master in the First Section.  The excellent work of degree team was supported by brothers on the sidelines making the degree a memorable experience for the newly made brothers.

March promises to be a busy month too with the Regular Communication with a Saint Patrick's Day dinner. The short talks that were well received in January and February will be continued in the months to come.  Jackson Lodge #17 will also be hosting the District #46 election of District Deputy Instructor and member to the Board of General Purposed on March 24.

This winter has been a harsh one with the ice storm of last week knocking out electricity to many in the southern counties.  These power outages, together with a slow to recover economy and unemployment hovering around 10 percent have caused hardships many of our brothers, family, friends and neighbors.  This would be a perfect time to contribute to the local food banks and shelters. We have available in the parlor a container that we need to fill to take to our local food  bank in Michigan Center (which we helped start with a $3,000.00 donation). Bring something to the Regular Communication and deposit it in the container on March 10th.

I am looking forward to greeting each of you in Lodge.

Fraternally,

Frank W. Lutze

Worshipful Master

They All Came Just For Me

Something big is going on here.

Or so I thought that night,

As the Masons came to gather round

the Great and lesser lights.

One from here and one from there
From places far and wide,
They came to do, I knew not what,
As they gathered there inside.

But from each man I was greeted
With a smile and voice of cheer.
One said, "so you're the candidate.
The reason that we're here."

I scarcely knew just what he meant,
For this was my "first degree."
There must be much for them to do
Before they got to me.

Surely these guys would not travel
for the sake of just one man.
Yes, there must be much for them to do,
Before my part began.

The "Brother Tiler" was my company
As I waited at the door
To step into this brand new realm
I had not known before.

They shared with me the three Great Lights
and some tools of the trade,
That I might learn a thing or two
of how a man be better made.

When at last I had been seated
In this brotherhood of men
The Master then began to bring
The meeting to an end.

And with all things then completed,
They stayed a little more,
To eat and drink and share a laugh
Before heading toward the door.

But as we left I understood
And then began to see.
That they all came for one reason.
They all came just for me.

Dear brothers I pray every lodge
Will make new ones like me,
Feel as welcome as these brothers did,
When they held my First Degree.

We have just completed a massive project at our Masonic Center in Michigan Center. We had to do the following:

  • Clean the entire building and replace the furnaces. Install new  rooftop heating and air conditioning units with new air ducts.
  • Throw away a lot of items that are of little use to us anymore.
  •  New Hanging Sign out front and in the very near future a new Masonic/York Rite/Eastern Star lighted sign on the building.

We now have a more efficient building that we all can be proud of.

 Special Note To The Brethren
Member's of all Jackson-Coolidge Masonic Bodies

We are in need of your email address for transmitting the electronic version of the Jackson/Coolidge MTA Trestleboard on a monthly basis. It is becoming more expensive to produce the Trestleboard due to rising postal rates and the cost to make the printed copies. (We usually print about 300 copies). If you would still like to receive it by mail that is fine too.
Just let us know your preference.
