Greetings!,

We are getting closer to spring and new signs of life are popping up everywhere. We have several different types and colors of crocus flowers that have emerged from their winter sleep in our flower beds. Seeing the bright colors makes it seem like winter will soon be over and warmer days will soon  be upon us. What a difference warmer temperatures and a little sunshine seem to make. Everyone seems to be just a little more cheerful as the winter cold gets puts to rest for a few months. Now is a good time to help rejuvenate our lodge by helping out on some of the projects and events that will be coming in the next few months. Two of the most visible ones will be the Day in the Park and Kid's Fest.

Day in the Park follows the Rose Parade and will be at Ella Sharp Park. We will have tables set up for kids so that they may color a picture and get a prize for doing so. We had a great turnout last year and expect another one this year. It is not difficult work and can really be a fun day seeing all of the people that pass by. It is a great opportunity for us to promote Masonry and tell people about whom we are.

Kid's Fest is another event that we are involved in and it also takes place in June and will be at the American One building at the Jackson County Fairgrounds. We will be doing the Michigan Child Identification Program once again this year. Last year we had hundreds of children that went through the program and expect more of the same this year. We had a wonderful crew of people work last year, but we could still use more people to help. There are several jobs to choose from and you do not have to be there all day. American One Credit Union will be advertising this event and they will be telling people that  we will be there and what we will be doing. This is also a great way for us to promote our craft. There will also be an ad placed by Jackson Lodge 17 in the Rose Festival Tab that will appear in the Jackson Citizen Patriot on May 27, 2010 promoting the Rose Parade and Kid's Fest. Please come out to help with these events.

Many thanks to Manya Otis, ChFC, for taking the time to tell us at our last potluck about estate planning and how it can make life much easier for those left behind. We found out that may be possible to save thousands of dollars if we take the time to plan. We would rather our belongings and money go where we want it and not to the government. And by all means include your blue lodge in your estate planning.
