Quantifying Human Exposures to PAHs in Soil: State of the Science
New research is under way to improve the quantification of human health risk from direct exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in soil, leading to better characterization and decision-making at contaminated upland sites. Integral scientist Mike Ruby, co-principal investigator for a 3-year, $1.5M research study for the U.S. Department of Defense, shares the latest advances in soil PAH chemistry and bioavailability research that may result in health-protective cleanup goals with reduced remedial costs.

Revised Water Quality Standards for Oregon: Integral Tracks Progress and Assesses Impacts
On June 16, 2011, the Oregon Environmental Quality Commission proposed new water quality standards (WQS) for Oregon's freshwater, estuarine, and near coastal waterways. The proposed WQS are more stringent than those currently in place for 56 constituents, and WQS have been developed for 38 constituents for which there currently are no WQS, and for 10 constituents for which WQS have been established but not on the basis of fish consumption.  As a result, there are likely to be substantial technical and cost implications for dischargers once these proposed WQS have been approved by EPA and formally adopted.  For further information, contact Laura Jones at 503.943.3611 or [email protected], or Randi Wexler at 503.943.3628 or [email protected].
