Changes to Washington State Regulations on Sediment Cleanup: Integral Tracks Progress With numerous cleanup projects now under way at contaminated sites in Washington State, environmental project managers must keep abreast of the latest revisions to sediment cleanup requirements. Slated for implementation in 2011, revised sediment management standards (SMS) are now being developed by the Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) to clarify cleanup requirements and expand the standards. Ecology has established a Sediment Workgroup to provide technical, scientific, and policy input for updating the SMS, as part of broader revision of the Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA) cleanup regulation targeted for the spring/summer of 2011. Integral scientists have been tracking the Sediment Workgroup discussions and the implications of the revisions.

Sustainability Spotlight: Integral Wins Local Commuter Challenge
For the third consecutive year, Integral's Portland, Oregon, office has won the local "Carefree Commuter Challenge," leading area small businesses in use of sustainable transportation. This challenge is an annual event sponsored by the non-profit Westside Transportation Alliance (WTA) to promote alternative commuting strategies for companies and their employees during the month of July. Logging more than 2,805 miles through bike riding, transit usage, and other sustainable forms of transportation, Integral's employees reduced their number of solo car trips, showing their overall commitment to a healthier environment and work force.
