Greetings!

"I only wanted the best for him, but looking back I realize I was probably too indulgent.  I looked the other way when I should have confronted him more."  Those are the words of a very dear friend spoken when his only child was sentenced to prison on drug charges.

I got word the other day that his son was being released and would be sent to a half way house soon. In my conversation with my friend he expressed his concern over "John" (not his real name) returning to the company of his old "friends" that had been such a bad influence on him.  I told him that is a real danger.  Until we realize that we are the only ones who can choose our future we will be susceptible to others opinions of who we are.

I really feel for my friend.  It's a helpless feeling watching someone you love make choices you know will hurt them and in some cases destroy them.  It's not an easy cut and dry issue is it?

Regardless of our age we all need positive affirmations and influence in our lives.  For me, I find it in the people, books, and music I surround myself with everyday.  My main source, God's word.  I love what he says about me.  I love what he says about our relationship.  If you have ever gotten a private email from me you will recognize the closing line.

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11

"John" if by chance you are reading this please take this serious.  Surround yourself with people who will inspire you and stir up a desire to achieve greatness.  People who will celebrate with you God-inspired dreams.  You can only choose this for yourself.

I love you guys.
Don
