Glass Art by Don Logo

It's been too long

"Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don't wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend... Every minute should be enjoyed and savored."

Earl Nightingale  1921-1989
Greetings!

The phone message said, "Hey Merrell's this is Greg.  It's been a long time since we spoke.  I just wanted to ask for prayer.  My Dad is dying and we need your prayers.  Give a call when you get a chance."

It had been over a year since I spoke to my old friend from California.  Greg is a devoted husband and father.  We had been close and I remembered his father well.  A sweet gentle man.  I was saddened at the news of his illness.

When I called him back we talked for over an hour.  Greg sounded different, his speech slightly slurred and hesitating.

He told me how he was giving his youngest daughter, who had just gotten her license, a driving lesson on a mountain road when they were hit head on by a 18 wheeler rounding a curve in their lane.  The accident happened a little over a year ago, just a few weeks after we last spoke. Greg went on to describe the terrible injuries and the recovery process.  Greg had received severe head and upper body trauma which explained his speech.

Greg went into great detail about the toll this has taken on him and his family.  He was totally disabled now.  I was feeling helpless and my heart was breaking for him.  Then he said something I will never forget.

"God is so good, he is supplying our every need.  I've had a chance to slow down and really see my family as the gift they are to me.  What a wonderful God we serve."

We talked for the next half hour about all the opportunities God was putting in his path.  How he was so much closer to his loved ones.  He was even going back to College to earn another degree.  I could hear the excitement in his voice as he described how being the oldest one in his classes he was able to impart Godly wisdom to his young classmates and professors alike.

He was asked to read aloud a paper he had written on Fatherhood in a sociology class.  He said when he finished there was not a dry eye including the professor.  Greg said rather naively, "I don't think most of these kids know what it's like to have a real loving father."

After we hung up I sat for awhile contemplating our conversation.  My eyes brimming I whispered, "God I want to be like Greg when I grow up.  Lord teach me to run toward you and not away from you in times of trial."

    I love you guys,

God Bless,

Plaque w/ sculpture Glass Gymnast being made on YouTube

See a gymnastic sculpture being made.  We turned a 30 minute operation into 3 minutes with the magic of video editing.  This was originally done as a countdown for my church.
