Greetings! This whole idea of "Laws" or principles that govern our lives has been a very enlightening study for me. I mean, everybody lives their lives according to principles they adhere to, either wittingly or unwittingly. There is a "Law" of influence. Our perception of ourselves is influenced starting in childhood by every word and action directed toward us. My wife Caroline has really gotten into an "Ancestry.com" obsession of late. She has traced hers and my ancestry back to "Atilla the Hun", figuratively speaking. It's been a lot of fun but I've enjoyed her enjoying it more than anything. One night last week I went in our computer room and I could tell she had been crying. "Are you OK?" "Look at this", she nodded toward her computer screen. I read a story of a family with a proud heritage of land owners, patriots and people of influence going directly back to Thomas Jefferson. "Who is this?" With a big grin she said, "It's John's family tree." "John", not his real name, is a very dear family friend. He has a heart of gold but very poor self esteem. He was raised in an emotionally abusive back woods poverty mentality and has struggled to see himself as a worthwhile person. Caroline invited him over a few nights ago and handed him the stack of papers from her computer. We watched as he read. I'm sure we had silly grins on our faces but we watched as John's expression changed. His posture and demeanor changed. It was almost as if he were "morphing" before our very eyes. Then we both cried. I was reminded of the moment I realized I was God's child and that He and his kingdom are my heritage. He told me he would never leave me nor forsake me. That moment changed my life forever. Caroline and I realized the search for John's earthly heritage could have gone either way, but there is no doubt of the outcome when we realize our heritage is God's family. I love you guys, God Bless, Don This is a great little video! |
