Greetings!
Last week I talked about "Laws" that govern different aspects of our lives. I was told by some very close to me that the word "Law" sounds like something mandated or something restrictive or against our will. OK, OK, so let's call them.... "really good ideas that we should take to heart." One friend told the story of how his Grandfather who owned a produce packing house would heap the produce up so that when it settled after transport his customers would have a full measure of what they had paid for. He talked about how this had stuck with him over the years and how it inspired him to treat people in his business the same way. In Napoleon Hill's book "Laws of success" he calls this, appropriately enough, "The habit of doing more than paid for." Most of the people I know who are successful business owners, coaches or employees do this as a matter of fact. It's from the heart. Not because they are expecting reward, but because it gratifies the soul. It's the right thing to do. Like my friend's Grandfather, it's giving honor to your fellow human beings and in the process giving honor to God. Does this "really good idea that we should take to heart." have rewards? Of course it does. You will gain trust, respect, and promotion in your chosen field, but if you are doing it for that reason chances are you don't quite get it yet. My son Mark Merrell is a master finish and trim carpenter. He is sought after by all the best builders in his area because of his work ethic. He gets it. I love the quote on the side of his trucks. "Every Job is a Self Portrait of the Person who did it. Autograph your work with Excellence"
