Greetings! I hope you had a wonderful Easter. For me it is a time full of reflection. Many of you know that my wife Caroline is the worship leader at our church. She is an extremely talented and classically trained musician and well, I'm not. We are a classic case of opposites attracting. Needless to say she is very busy this time of year, planning services, music, orchestration, and much much more. I volunteer quite a bit of time at the church (Other wise I wouldn't see her much). One of the biggest challenges of being so busy with the "stuff" of the church is keeping an attitude of praise and worship. Remembering Christ's sacrifice and the real message of Easter. This is probably the most reflective time of the year for Christians. Even if you are not a Christian there is much to gain from the teachings and reflection around the life of Jesus and the example he set. For some reason this year I've been drawn to the story of the Passover meal Jesus had with his disciples the night before he was crucified. You see, Jesus was the only one in the room that knew the events of the next day even though he had told the disciples he was coming to Jerusalem to die, they still had their own ideas of what being the messiah was all about. Jesus choose this time to wash his disciples feet. Sandals were the footwear of choice during this time so feet got very dirty in the dry dusty climate. Foot washing was the lowest of duties usually falling to the lowliest of servants or slaves. The disciples objected vehemently to the Master washing their feet. Peter even went so far as to tell him there was noway he was washing his feet. Jesus told him that if he didn't let him wash his feet then he could have no part in him, to which Peter replied, then wash all of me Lord. What was Jesus saying to the Disciples here? This is what I love about the scripture. It is like looking at a many faceted diamond that shows you a different view every time you examine it. There are volumes of commentary written on this point of "foot washing", but to me this time it's pretty simple. Lead by example. Be willing to perform the lowliest of jobs to show your love and respect for the people put in your care. What ever your position of leadership, parent, coach, CEO, spouse or friend, be willing to wash some feet. So my question to you today is, whose feet are you washing? "So the last will be first, and the first last." Matthew 20:16
I love you guys, God Bless, Don
