What Legacy are you leaving?

"We all leave a legacy don't we.  The question is, is it one by default, or the one we purposed?    Live, love, care and forgive like you mean it."

Jorge,  Transcended Dude

Greetings!

I received a phone call a few years ago asking if I could create a glass sculpture of a gymnast from a photograph.  I receive similar request quite often, but what made this one different really touched my heart.

The call was from the University of New Hampshire.  A member of their Gymnastic team had been killed in a tragic accident and they wanted to do something special in her memory.

The young lady who called talked about this vivacious, bigger than life young gymnast who inspired and encouraged every team member.  They wanted to call it, the "Katie Baldwin Expression Award".

I just finished the "Katie Baldwin" awards for 2011 and while sitting at my glass torch I began thinking about Katie's legacy and my own.  I have one of Katie's sculptures that sits on my work bench to serve as a reminder for me of how important my own Legacy is.

I didn't know Katie, but I know a lot about her.  I know she was spirited, enthusiastic, inspirational, loving and loved by many.  I know her legacy continues through the young ladies who receive her award each year. I also know she had supportive parents, teachers and coaches in her life.  I know this because you don't have the qualities that Katie had without them.  Legacy begets Legacy.  Like Jorge in the quote above says, "Live, love, care and forgive like you mean it."
God Bless,
I love you all,
Don

I'm new to this social media thing but I really want to learn.  I welcome any advice and comments.
I wondered if I was too old to learn this, but my wife said I was just too impatient. :-)

Glass Gymnast being made on YouTube
See a gymnastic sculpture being made.  We turned a 30 minute operation into 3 minutes with the magic of video editing.  This was originally done as a countdown for my church.
