I knew when I transitioned from the military that I wanted to work from home. Like many who pursue work from home opportunities, I wanted to spend more time with my family.
What I didn't know was how to do it, or what to do. My experience is in human resources, but my passion is in writing. I figured I would need to win the Pulitzer Prize in order to make a living from my passion, so I began looking for ways to make a living from my experience.
I applied to some call center jobs, but I never received a call back. I tried a job in sales. I sold nothing. All the while, I kept on writing. Having so much free time out of the military afforded me the opportunity to pursue writing. I took up some freelance gigs and kept working on some projects I have been "getting around to" for several years.
The freelance jobs weren't paying the bills, but at least I was getting hired. I was amazed at how my lack of experience didn't deter me from getting hired for many writing jobs, but my extensive experience in human resources didn't help me much in landing an office job, whether at home or away. Was there really something to this whole "do what you love thing?"
Of course we all want to get paid for doing what we love. That's everyone's dream. They say if you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life. For the first time, I am seeing the truth in this.
Since placing my focus and my heart in writing, I have garnered quite a few freelance jobs that are paying significantly more than they were in the beginning. I have made serious headway in things I had only previously talked about doing, and my self-doubt is steadily declining.
If there is something you love doing, and you have a want or need to stay at home while doing it, then becoming a Virtual Assistant just might be the answer. Whether you love to write, render customer service, organize events or keep a calendar, there is likely an opportunity for you to do so online. If you aren't sure what your passion is, ask yourself this "what would I do if I didn't need the money." The answer will provide some valuable insight on what it is you truly love. Once you know the answer, the rest should fall into place.
