Virtual Assistant Office Humor
Bringing the Joy Back to Your Virtual Office
By Cindy Coulter

You would think because my office is a mere ten steps from my kitchen that I would have a fairly safe commute, right?

Well, first of all, I tripped over my slipper coming down the stairs, only to land on a plastic body part from one of my son's Transformers. So I'm hopping on one foot holding the other, cussing the dog for trying to greet me with a wet sloppy kiss, when both kids come running with morning hugs yelling, "What's for breakfast?"

All this before my first cup of coffee.

Sound familiar? If you work from home, you've probably been here. Don't worry, you're not alone. Just take a deep breath, peel those loving little fingers from your leg, stumble to the kitchen and get your caffeine fix.

Working from home can be a dream come true or a logistics nightmare if you have children or a spouse vying for your attention as you try to meet client deadlines.

Remember how excited you were to start your own virtual assistant business? Remember how fun you thought it was going to be working from home? Are you still enjoying your business as much as you did then?

Let me remind you why you decided to be your own boss, and how to bring back the fun to your virtual assistant business.

Order a nameplate for your desk that says Chief Executive Officer or Head Honcho. It's the truth isn't it?

Post a funny quote or cartoon at your desk where you will see it throughout the day or whenever you need a lift. Visit http://wahumor.com/ for some side-splitting post-it notes.

Implement your own humorous office policies, such as no personal emails during business hours. View more funny work policies at http://www.thehappyguy.com/office-policies.html.

Post inspirational messages around your office (Got genius?, Genius at work, etc. For more inspirational quotes, go to http://www.quotegarden.com/genius.html.

Institute your own spirit week: Monday is purple day, Tuesday is mis-matched sock day, Wednesday is hat day, etc.  Have fun with it-no one is going to see you!

Treat yourself to a special lunch. Whether you have it delivered, go to a restaurant or cook it yourself, enjoy a meal that doesn't include PB&J. Or, if you really, really like PB&J, eat it off your fine china.

Hang a mirror near your desk to remind you to smile. If you have a smile on your face, it will shine through the phone when speaking to clients, and will improve your overall disposition.

I hope these ideas will remind you why you decided to start your own virtual assistant business in the first place.

What makes you happy?  Then do it.
