Message from Brian...

Who is in your network?  No, I don't mean your wireless plan or your TV (cable/satellite) plan.  I mean your network of people.  Too many people confuse networking with job hunting and I am afraid to say it is their loss.  In addition to offering knowledge and a great deal of information, ARMA is also an unbelievable networking source for you and your teams.

Then what is networking you ask?  Networking is building lines of communication that run to and from you and your company.  Networking is finding out what is going on in the industry and who is doing it.  A good network allows you to have multiple resources at your fingertips and the ability to call on them for assistance and guidance.  While we all network by typing in LinkedIn and Facebook, there is still no better networking tool out there than shaking hands and talking to people.  With that in mind I invite you to three great opportunities to get out there and build your network.

Thursday April 14th ARMA @ Noon will be held in Hartford at the offices of Robinson & Cole

Tuesday April 19th ARMA Connecticut will be at Brazi's in New Haven

Friday May 20th ARMA Connecticut Spring Seminar @ MGM Grand at Foxwoods

As always, thank you, and I hope to see you soon...

With Regards,

Brian F. Paul

President, ARMA Connecticut Chapter

March Meeting Recap... March 22, 2011

"Back to the Future:The Challenges of Managing Records for a Global Media Company" presented by Marcel Rodriguez

Article by Anita Castora, CRM, Immediate Past President

Marcel gave a very interesting presentation and discussed the many challenges of working for a global media company.  He told the story of why his department is known as the Document Management Department rather than the Records Management Department.  It seems that someone felt there could be some confusion between the vinyl "records" department and the "records" information department, hence the "Document Management Department".

USB Drives Continue to Pose Security Threats

 from ARMA International NewsWire ...

Two recent studies conducted by CREDANT Technologies highlight the significant security concerns posed by the use of USB drives (aka flash drives or memory sticks).  On March 1, 2011, the company issued a press release regarding a survey of UK dry cleaners and launderettes that revealed more than 17,000 USB drives were left behind in 2010 -- reportedly a 400% increase from 2009.
