"If this country wants to remain a leader in the world, our young people need to realize their potential. Boys II Men personifies this!"
Mayor Thomas Weisner
Mayor, City of Aurora |
To describe what it feels like to be called a phenomenal young man, I imagine it is much like being called Mr. President. There is a sense of honor, pride, and joy. But responsibility as well, a responsibility to those who call me phenomenal to remain the phenomenal young man I am and to grow into a phenomenal man, and a responsibility to inspire those who are not phenomenal to become phenomenal.
Rodney Boyd
Vice President, Boys II Men
Neuqua Valley High School
Class of 2010 |
As I sat in the audience of the Phenomenal Man Awards, I felt inspired. Toward the end of the ceremony, I thought to myself, "Okay, I'm inspired, but what am I going to do with it." ...The Boys II Men scholars showed me that being inspired is just the first step. The next step is to go and inspire someone else.. - Vicky Vazquez
Vicky, a Senior at Westmont High School, attended the Phenomenal Man Awards with nearly 30 of her peers from Westmont High! Read more about their experience: Click Here! Thanks Ms. Bartosz, WHS Assistant Principal! |

In a time when the dominant image in our culture of men of color is mostly limited to the negative reflections of societal, educational and socioeconomic ills, my brothers here have chosen to define their own paths--undeterred by the noise and distractions that halt progress--choosing to travel the road of purpose and excellence. But, in order to be true leaders we must not only continue our individual journey, but answer the call to action that is before us. For whom much is given, much is required.
President,

A Special Message to the Achievers from
NBC5 News Anchor, Alex Perez
...Like many of you, I know what it's like to grow up in a single parent household. I know what it's like to face temptation. I know what it's like to choose to study and focus on school, when my "friends" are begging me to do things that are unbecoming of the person I want to be.
Also like you--I keep my sight on the goals at hand, and realize the decision is mine. These traits that we share will be there to guide us even in our darkest moments.
Let us continue to shatter stereotypes. Let us continue to better our communities. Let us continue to lead others around us in the right direction...
Boys II Men will present Alex Perez with the
PHENOMENAL MAN OF THE YEAR AWARD
during the next awards ceremony!

Phenomenal Man, Alex Perez (center), takes time to encourage B2M Scholars, Gilberto Chaidez (left) and Roberto Saenz (right). |
...AND UNTIL NEXT TIME...
We sincerely thank you for your continued support of Boys II Men. We look forward to working with you to shatter stereotypes, overcome obstacles, and break through barriers!
