Amplifiers under construction
Greetings!

Thank you so much for your patience and sorry for not staying in touch in a more timely manner. This year has been very hectic and I am hopeful that with the completed shop expansion, some additional new help coming on board, and this monthly newsletter service, I will be able to communicate amplifier construction progress better in the future.

Sincerely, David Barnes

Vintage47amps is dedicated to the preservation of the Valco circa 1947 octal tube amplifier designs. The designs feature the Chicago original blues tone and period correct mojo style.

Thank you to everyone for your interest and support with my Valco Amplifier Project. Your encouragement, suggestions and feedback have been a great source of inspiration. Together we are preserving a unique part of our music history.

I look forward to your continued support and encourage everyone to keep sending any and all vintage amplifier pictures, historic literature, stories and sound clips.  As room permits I'll be sharing those in future newsletters.

Comet small pic The Vintage47amps 8 and 10" Alnico speakers featuring the hemp papar cones by A Brown Soun, maker of the Tone Tubby, are in and tested out above every expectation! The 12" cone mould is all that needs completing to get the 12" up and running. The first fieldcoil speaker reproduction prototypes went down to Tone Tubby for hempcones and testing, results should be in shortly. Keep an eye on the website for price and availablility. I comparison tone testing they are kicking Jensen and Weber to the curb ....more

Spectator two tone I am just wrapping up six amplifiers promised to a couple guitar magazines which will free my time to start up another batch which I hope to have posted to the website by Christmas holiday weekend.  I will be sending more information as completion dates get closer.

Remember that up until now I have been working without any assistance, 100% hand made one at a time, which takes time. But even I have to admit that some tasks such as gluing the wood together and painting the inside of the cabinets can be done by an assist without sacraficing quality, as can the attachment of the chassis hardware (non electrical). So I have arranged for some help starting anyday now. In the past I have built 40-60 amps a years all alone but now with help I hope to triple that quantity for 2010.
