Rain or shine the Barton Creek Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 9:00am - 1:00pm with live music, fresh produce, dairy and meat, specialty foods, and local artisans. Located on the backside of Barton Creek Square overlooking the city of Austin, it's a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning in Austin. You can sign up for their weekly emails, which always include coupons! |
Peruse their site beforehand to check out their farmers, prepared food specialists, local artisans and all the rest. Barton Creek Farmers Market is a non-profit whose "purpose is to provide healthy food to the community and support local farmers."
Do you have a love affair with your bath soap? I DO (this is Allison)! The first time I used this bar, I fell in love with the lather that went on and on, the clean, fresh and yet moisturized feeling and that it was clear (good for leaving behind a clean tub!). For all these reasons and more, Nepenthe's Bathtime is on our Haute Summer list...|
Raised in Monterey Bay, Samantha Hlavaty is actually an Austin native. She found her way back here in 1999 after some time in Chicago. Working with soap began as a way for her to relax after a long day at work, but she soon realized her love affair with soap, too, as did her friends and family, specifically her soap! Nepenthe's Bathtime started as a "serendipitous accident" - she wanted custom soaps to give away as favors at her wedding and since 2008 this has been her full time job.
With her background in Visual Communication and a certification in 3D Animation, Samantha incorporates art into her bath products to "create unique products while not compromising quality." She explores the foundational elements of objects such as fragrance, texture and color, tries to discover why they are attractive to her and then aspires to "replicate that feeling or concept in soap." So far the biggest obstacle has been the inability to clone herself so she can produce all the wonderful ideas, products and designs in her head, but the wonderful feedback she receives continues to be an inspiration for her business.
And don't let her cutesy designs and alien themes full you for one soapy minute - everything she produces is of highest quality with all natural or high quality cosmetic grade ingredients (the same stuff they use in mineral make up). It's just more fun to bathe with a mustache bar of soap!
You can find Nepenthe's Bathtime products online in her Etsy Shop, or locally at several stores. Check out her website for more information or email her at Relax@NepenthesBathtime.com.
