Greetings!
We would like to welcome all our patients and their families into the new fall season! We hope everyone had a wonderful summer! As always summer flew by, so just a reminder to call our office if you missed the opportunity to bring your child in for a needed appointment. Our appointments are filling up fast, especially after-school time slots! Also, if you haven't already, submit dental examination school forms for your kindergarten, second and sixth graders. As children get back on a more regulated schedule, please reinforce proper oral hygiene habits to ensure superb dental health. |

Welcome Dr. Younger!
Dr. Leila Younger, D.D.S., M.S., is a board certified pediatric dentist with over 20 years of experience. Following her undergraduate degree in biology and dental degree fro the University of Illinois, she completed her training at Children's Memorial Hospital and has a master's degree in pediatric dentistry from Northwestern University.
Prior to joining Children's Dentistry Group, she was in practice in Algonquin since 1995. She currently serves as an examiner for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She is married, has two children and a Siberian husky. She and her family enjoy taking medical mission trips to provide care in under-served areas. |
Daily Brushing and Flossing
Brushing should be done twice daily, everyday. Nighttime brushing is more essential than brushing in the morning, although both are extremely important. We recommend supervising children's oral hygiene until they are about eight years old or until they are able to write in cursive. Around this time, they acquire the dexterity to do a very thorough job brushing. With that said, each child is different so they may be ready for different habits at varying ages. As children gain independence, they may want to brush on their own. In this case, we recommend the child brushes by themselves in the morning and has a parent assist at bedtime. If a child is going to brush on their own and until they learn how to spit properly, they should use a training (non-fluoridated) toothpaste. This will eliminate the chance of them ingesting any of the fluoride. At night with a parent's supervision, children should be using a wisp of fluoridated toothpaste, an amount even smaller than a green pea. Again, if the child can not spit suitably then the remaining toothpaste should be wiped out with a wet washcloth, napkin, towel, etc. to ensure there is minimal fluoride ingested into the body. In addition to brushing the teeth, children should be gently brushing their gums as well to remove plaque sitting along the gum line. For our younger patients who have little to no teeth, we still recommend either wiping off the gums with a towel or washcloth or gently brushing the teeth with an infant toothbrush. We like to start out even our youngest patients on the right foot.
Flossing should be done at least once a day, preferably at nighttime. We recommend getting children use to flossing even before it is absolutely necessary to do so. This means letting children play with the floss/floss holders and 'pretend' to floss. That way when flossing is a must, they will be use to doing it. There is not really a specific age children should start flossing. Whenever the gaps begin to close and you can no longer see daylight through in between the teeth, then flossing should de done. The most common areas children get cavities are in between the teeth, due to not flossing, among other things. The small floss holders are very easy and convenient for both parents and children to use. This should, again, be done daily to ensure optimal dental health. |

Sterilization and Infection Control
At Children's Dentistry Group, we use the highest quality disinfecting and sterilizing products. Instruments, equipment, and surroundings need to be cleaned, disinfected, and sterilized after each patient use, along with decontaminating all surfaces of the examination room. In our sterilization room, we use an ultrasonic machine that removes any debris from dental instruments and sanitizes them before getting sterilized. The ultrasonic vigorously shakes the debris off instruments using ultra sonic waves. After this process is complete, the instruments go into an autoclave machine. This procedure sterilizes the instruments using high-temperature steam under pressure. The high-pressure heat penetrates into pouches and cassettes where the instruments are stored. Every single instrument and tool is cleaned and sterilized after each patient use. We implement infection control procedures to ensure precautions are taken to prevent the spread of disease. We follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Dental Association's guidelines. All exam room surfaces, such as chairs, lights, and countertops are cleaned after every patient use. Protective barriers are also used on things such as chairs, lights, computers, and instruments to ensure even further protection. Disposable items are thrown out after each patient use. Sharp and biohazard materials get placed in special containers and are disposed of properly by a licensed biomedical waste handler. Each staff member washes their hands after every patient and wears a new mask and pair of gloves for each new patient. They also wear protective eyewear to further enhance infection control procedures. We also follow OSHA regulations that ensure our workplace is a safe place. All team members have annual training and certifications through Stericycle. Our office is beyond compliant and undergoes yearly voluntary inspections by a Stericycle representative to assist us in maintaining high quality standards. |
Insurance Networks Drs. Herer, Patenio and Younger are preferred providers of most insurance networks; Aetna PPO, Delta Dental Premier/PPO, Cigna - RADIUS PPO, Humana PPO, Guardian PPO, MetLife PDP, Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, Principal PPO, GEHA Connection Dental PPO, Unicare PPO, United Healthcare PPO,in addition to accepting most traditional dental insurance policies. As a network provider of these insurance carriers, you will be provided with high quality pediatric dental care at a preferred rate.
We do our best to act as advocates for our patients. We want to help our patients maximize their insurance benefits as well as trying to prevent "financial surprises". Once we receive your complete insurance information, (I.D. numbers, group numbers, claims address, phone numbers and sometimes social security numbers, etc.) we can contact your dental carrier to find out what your benefits are under your specific policy. Deductibles, maximums, coverage percentages, frequencies and even exclusions will vary from policy to policy. When treatment is needed, we determine an estimated out-of-pocket expense and write up a treatment plan for our patients ahead of time. If your insurance covers more than we estimated, we will send you a refund. If your insurance carrier covers less than we estimated, we will send you an invoice. If payment arrangements need to be made, our Accounts and Treatment Coordinator, Julie, is always available to discuss the possibilities and assist in any way she can.
There are times when both dental and medical insurance benefits can be involved. For example, traumatic injuries injuries to the mouth or oral cavity could be covered by one or both types of insurance. We will contact both medical and dental carriers, write letters of medical necessity, coordinate care with pediatricians or other specialists and help in any way we can to navigate the insurance / financial maze.
If there are ever any questions regarding insurance, treatment estimates, statements, payment arrangements, in-network vs. out-of-network benefits, etc., Julie can be reached by phone (847-726-0300), by e-mail (julie@childrensdentistrygroup.com), or in person at our office, Monday thru Friday to provide assistance. |

Candy Buy Back Program
We are thrilled to join with Operation Gratitude and present our Candy Buy Back program again this year! We all know candy is not good for our children's teeth and with Halloween just around the corner, candy is going to be very plentiful in our homes. We want to try and eliminate cavities before they start, so your children are invited to bring their uneaten candy to our office in exchange for a monetary reward. Every pound of candy your child brings in, he/she will receive $1 in cash (limit $5). The candy collected will then be sent to our courageous troops in carepackages, along with toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss and other goodies! Candy Buy Back will take place on Thursday November 1st through Thursday November 8th, during our regular business hours. Please check our Facebook page or call our office for additional information!
