Greetings!
My orginal idea for this edition of our Newsletter was to focus on "Back to School". But, Irene has certainly disrupted my schedule! I am grateful to have made it thru the storm with only the major inconvenience of losing power & cell phone service. As we think about it though, please consider how worried our kids may be about their birth parents, their siblings, their extended family. They might not be able to articulate their concerns, and it may be displayed as a negative behavior. Many towns have delayed school openings due to our friend, Hurricane Irene. Click here for the most up-to-date listing of school closings & delays. Governor Malloy has a website specifically devoted to keeping the residents of CT updated. One site I keep checking is the CL-P Outage Map. I am hopeful that my town will eventually have power again :) Transitions are notoriously difficult for the children in our families. As exciting as it seems to us as parents, hearing "new teacher, new classroom, new friends" is quite anxiety producing for our kids. There isn't a quick fix, but check out this website for some interesting strategies that might help. Remember, the many Parent Support Groups in the area were designed with you in mind! Coming to group has many benefits...you could walk away with a new idea/strategy or at least feel validated that you are not alone with your frustration. Check our calendar for a group that meets at a convenient day/time for you! Best of luck during the next few weeks! |

"It takes a village to raise a child" (African Proverb)
This statewide project was begun to support and raise awareness about the continued need for foster "nests". Do you or a member of your family belong to a service organization or youth group? Would your group like to help support foster care and adoption and help spread the word about the need for additional homes?
How can you help?
- Host a painting party as a service project (materials can be provided).
- Display finished Bird Houses & LIterature about Foster Care
- Invite the "Everyone Needs a Nest" Project o your fair, festival, tag sale, meeting or coffee hour.
- Make a donation to "Everyone Needs a Nest".
- Donate arts and crafts supplies such as paints, brshes or wooden bird houses.
- Build and donate bird houses.
By participating in this project, you become part of the village. Finished birdhouses will be available at many fairs and festivals for a goodwill donation. Please contact us for more information regarding this project. |
