ACTION PLAN B
LEARN - SHARE - CONNECT- COLLABORATE
canoe
Check out all the new places to go on the website!

Greetings!

Here is the current edition of Action Plan B, your connection to Lives in the Balance.  We're delighted to share all of the exciting developments of the past few months and to keep you informed of the new things you'll find on the website.

Lives in the Balance hosted the First Annual Conference on Collaborative Problem Solving this past November in Augusta, Maine.  Use the above link to watch four videos showing some of the highlights of the day, including Maine Reports (a mini-
documentary capturing how the lives of parents, teachers, and students have been dramatically affected by the model) and Trailblazer Awards (in which you'll meet the recipients of our 2011 recognition awards).

We've also added the School Discipline Survey to the site ... it's a great way to explore whether a school's disciplinary practices are in line with what we know about why students exhibit challenging behaviors.  You can use the 11 questions on the survey as a tool to start a conversation about alternative non-punitive ways to approach discipline and direct people to Lives in the Balance and Collaborative Problem Solving.

Good and Bad News is another new page on the site in which we direct you to news stories about how behaviorally challenging kids are being understood (or not) and treated.  Please let us know when you come across good or bad news happening.

We have added a Scientific Advisory Board to guide Lives in the Balance in setting research priorities.

You can also now translate the main content of each pages into 52 languages by using a drop down menu on the top right of each page.

Here's some more great news from 2011:
  • Lives in the Balance received 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, which means we are officially a tax-exempt non-profit and we can accept donations and apply for grants.
  • We sent over 250 LITB Care Packages, so more people are getting information on how to better understand and help challenging kids.
  • Over 1,000 people have signed the LITB Bill of Rights.
  • More than 450,000 people have visited the Lives in the Balance website.

Ready to take action on behalf of behaviorally challenging kids and their parents, teachers, and other caregivers? Click on any (or many) of the links below.  And feel free to pass this newsletter along to others and help us spread the word.

Thanks for being part of the solution.

Send a LITB Care Package to help someone get the ball rolling to change the way they view and treat behaviorally challenging kids. Use Good and Bad News and the School Discipline Survey to identify people and places that could benefit from receiving resources about CPS.

It's that time again! Do you know someone who has embraced the Collaborative Problem Solving approach and is bravely and diligently implementing the model in their home, school, or facility?  Nominate them as a CPS Trailblazer.

Do you know someone who wants more information on  using the Assessment of Lagging Skills and Unsolved Problems and the hard parts of using Plan B?  Encourage them to listen to two of Dr. Greene's recent web-based radio programs on these topics.
