WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
Parents and families are essential partners with the school district during the transition process. The information contained within this workshop is intended to provide parents and families with information about the transition planning process in order to advance collaboration with Committees on Special Education (CSE). Parents and family members of transitioning youth with disabilities will understand the interaction between successful transition planning, services and post-school outcomes. Participants will learn information about the transition process, the importance of collaboration with school personnel, and the options available to individuals with disabilities once they leave high school. The workshop focuses on three essential considerations for students who have disabilities to achieve successful transition and career development: your child today, your child in the future and the support required to help your child achieve his/ her goals.
WORKSHOP GOALS:
The goal of this workshop is to provide parents of students with disabilities with information to:
- assess their child's strengths, interests, and needs;
- establish measurable post-secondary goals and annual goals; and
- identify appropriate transition services and coordinated activities.
