Spring is the most difficult time change for me.    Oh, yes, I know that I will have an extra hour of sunlight in the evenings but I am a morning person so I spend about a week "running" to find my morning hour!

This is also the "Rite of Spring Cleaning".  If you are like me, you would prefer to ignore the spring-cleaning ritual until you have visitors.   But this year seems different.   The endless autumn has yielded plenty of 50-degree days to roam outside, so it feels easier to sacrifice a day of decent weather to the gods of sanitation.

Let's start with a simple strategy - cleaning the windows to bring in that extra sun in the evenings!    Check your cabinets where alternative cleaning tools and agents may lurk.     Like coffee filters, for instance are great for washing windows.    You may go through a lot of them but they don't leave ink on your hands as newspaper does or lint on the windows like paper towels.

Rubbing alcohol and vinegar are also useful.   For a home-brewed window cleaner, mix one cup of alcohol with one cup of water and add a tablespoon of white wine vinegar.   For an all-purpose cleaning solution, add one-quarter cup of vinegar to a gallon of water.

Next,  let's spring clean those old financial records that will not be used for income tax records.  Set them aside and have ready to be shredded on Saturday, April 14 from 9-11:30 at the Villages Cribari East Parking lot.  

Now it is time to enjoy a beautiful Spring day!.

• Hire ONLY state-licensed contractors
• Check a contractor's license number on line (www.cslb.ca.gov)
• Get at least three bids
• Get three references from each bidder and review past work in person
• Make sure all project expectations are in writing and only sign the contract if you completely understand the terms
• Confirm that the contractor has workers' compensation insurance for employees
• Never pay more than 10 percent down or $1,000, which ever is less.   Don't pay in cash.
• Don't let payments get ahead of the work
• Keep a job file of all papers relating to your project, including all payments
• Don't make the final payment until you are satisfied with the job
