New tax Rule for Rental Property

Do you own rental property? Beginning January 1, 2011, you as a landlord or your agent MUST obtain the name, Federal Tax Identification Number (or Social Security number), and address from all individuals and businesses who provide services to your property of $600 or more during the year...this can be obtained on the IRS Form W-9. Examples include gardeners, painters, property managers and maintenance people. At the end of 2011, the landlord is required to report the payments of each service provider on Form 1099-MISC.
Ask your tax professional for further information and get your information set-up now rather than waiting until the end of the year.
