QuickBooks 2012 was released at the end of September and has several new or improved features. Now that several service releases have come out, the system seems to be stable in most areas and we are comfortable recommending upgrading.
If you use inventory, the Inventory Center unites inventory transactions and reports in one place, and adds inventory management. This is new to QuickBooks and, like the Customer and Vendor Centers, will save time while improving access to the information you need.
When choosing items for forms such as invoices, you now have the ability to search and choose multiple items at once - a true time saver.
Local document storage in the new Document Center allows the user to attach documents to transactions. When you or your auditors later review the transaction, the supporting documentation is a click away.
If you don't have a CRM solution, the Lead Center allows you to manage prospective clients. This also provides an area in which to improve Lead development, thereby keeping track of actions and communications between you and your prospect. When the prospect becomes a client, it is simple to convert them without re-entering information.
The new Calendar features To Do's, Invoices and Bills to be paid that are coming due or past due, as well as transactions as entered by date. This is a feature that users have been requesting for some time to help better manage their business.
Have you ever had to create a credit memo from an invoice and had to re-key each item? The new One-click transaction lets you create a credit memo from the invoice with a single click. You can make changes as needed and be done significantly faster than before.
Contributed Reports is another new feature - Have you ever wondered what kinds of reports other users develop? Or if there's a report "out there" that might be better than what you are using? This new feature allows users to contribute and/or download and experiment with different QB reports. You never know what you might find!
Batch Time Sheets allow you to process multiple time sheets for multiple vendors or employees at the same time. For a company like a landscaper, that has multiple people doing the same job at the same time, this feature will save time and make it less likely that someone's time gets missed.
Other areas of significant improvement include Send to Excel with the ability to make some formatting changes and have them retained when you refresh your data. We also now have new options to Condense Data if your file is getting too large or you need to pull out data for some limited period.
