Greetings!

In the October newsletter, you learned how to take control of your trades by booking the highest demanded weeks at your home resort, in your season, 12 or 13 months in advance. Now that you have a strong week to trade, what should you do next?
Deposit First vs. Request First
Interval International and Marriott Vacation Club� usually recommend that you deposit your week with Interval if you do not have plans to return to your home resort. This is called Deposit First--you give Interval your week and then requesMVCI in Francet locations you desire. The other method of trading, which many owners are not aware of, is called Request First. Request First allows you to retain the week you booked at your home resort and only relinquish (or deposit) it when your trade request is confirmed. Which trade method works best?

Use Deposit First when:
  • Your requested travel dates are AFTER the check-in date which you booked at your home resort or,
  • You have booked a week with a demand that is lower than what you are requesting or,
  • You are unsure of when you will trade and need the maximum time to complete a trade which is 2 years after your check-in date.
Use Request First when:
  • You would be happy to go back to your home property if your trade request is not fulfilled or,
  • You intend to travel prior to your check-in date at your home property AND
  • You have a week reserved that is equal to or greater in demand than your desired weeks. Use that strong week as leverage and don't give it to Interval until they give you what you want!
Interval will discourage you from placing a Request First trade since they prefer you to deposit your weeks. I have found that by holding firm and placing a Request First trade when the above circumstances apply, my clients' requests are traded faster and more successfully than if I deposited their week. Try this next time you trade and see the results for yourself!
